Overview
Tails & Tires is a hands-on, three-part safety workshop designed by high school MTB leaders to help all trail users—riders, runners, hikers, and equestrians—share the trail with confidence.
You’ll get clear, practical tips, live demos, and a friendly space to practice skills with riders, hikers, and horse handlers. A bike is optional (but recommended). Everyone will also have a chance to meet and safely hop on a horse (with guidance).
What You’ll Learn
Horse Sense 101 — physiology, prey-vs-predator instincts, and common “spook” triggers
The Startle Factor — why fast pass-bys can feel unsafe (especially for kids, elders, and people with disabilities) and how to prevent it
Better Trail Comms — why “on your left/right” can be risky, plus safer, clearer ways to communicate ️
Live Demos — good vs. bad passing behavior with bikes, hikers, and horses, followed by guided practice
